A Celebration of Cultures
For this unique wedding project, I had the honour of creating an illustration that beautifully intertwines the rich cultural heritage of Barbados, Trinidad, and the Netherlands. The design was a heartfelt tribute to the couple's diverse backgrounds, incorporating iconic symbols from each culture to create a piece that is as meaningful as it is visually striking.
Barbadian Broken Trident: A symbol of strength and independence, the broken trident was seamlessly integrated into the illustration, representing the Barbadian heritage and the couple's connection to the island.
Dutch Windmill: Reflecting the groom’s Dutch roots, the classic windmill was included as a nod to the Netherlands’ rich history and landscape, adding a touch of old-world charm to the design.
Trinidadian Moko Jumbie: The vibrant and lively spirit of Trinidad was captured through the depiction of a moko jumbie, a traditional stilt dancer, symbolizing protection and celebration.
Steel Pan: The inclusion of the steel pan paid homage to Trinidad’s musical legacy, adding rhythm and vibrancy to the illustration, representing the joyous soundscape of the Caribbean.
Scarlet Ibis: As a symbol of grace and beauty, the scarlet ibis, Trinidad's national bird, was elegantly woven into the design, adding a splash of color and representing the natural splendor of the island.
Flying Fish: A symbol of freedom and the open seas, the flying fish tied the cultural elements together, representing the journey and unity of the couple.
Elements of the Design
This project was a joyful exploration of cultural fusion, blending traditional symbols into a modern design that tells a story of love, heritage, and unity. The final piece not only served as a stunning visual element for the wedding but also as a keepsake that the couple will cherish for years to come.
